Most important is probably the fact Cardiff is the home of the Millennium Stadium where God has a grandstand seat to watch his favourite team, Wales! There is evidence Neolithic people (relatives of my father) settled in the area now know as Cardiff six thousand years ago, that is fifteen hundred years before Stone Henge was built, so Cardiff's history goes a long way back, even before Tom Jones sang about the Green, Green Grass of Home. In 1081 William the 1st, the then King of England, began work on the original keep for Cardiff castle (the fact an English King began the work irks somewhat, but the people of Cardiff will point out it is a Welsh flag that flies in the castle towers now and never let it be said the Welsh are small-minded about these things ;). The place had previously been a Roman fort, so again history tells us Cardiff has always been strategically important, so close your ears to the protestations coming from the cave dwellers in Swansea ;) Cardiff is the capital of Wales for a reason. Firstly all the Welsh brains reside in Cardiff, a fact acknowledged by our famous local brewery and secondly, the best rugby is played in Cardiff. That is simply an undeniable fact because Gareth Edwards played for Cardiff, simples :)And, lastly but by no means least, the National Museum of Wales is in Cardiff! That explains everything, I think ;)
Another very important fact about Cardiff is I was born here. Okay, so that fact is not totally relevant today, but it will be in a hundred years time when they realise at long last what I great and hugely talented guy I was back now... Of course, I should mention as well Roald Dahl was born here, as was Ivor Novello (mate of my Grandad's), Griff Rhys Jones and a few others, all less significant than myself, to me anyway ;)
